Coho Salmon
Coho salmon, often called “silvers,” are a prized species of salmon known for their vibrant, silvery appearance and strong fighting spirit. They are highly regarded by anglers for their acrobatic leaps and aggressive feeding habits. Coho salmon are an anadromous fish, meaning they migrate from the ocean to freshwater rivers and streams to spawn. Their delicious, reddish-orange flesh and the thrilling chase they provide make them a popular target for recreational and sport fishing, particularly during their annual runs in North American and Pacific coastal waters. Coho salmon are known for their delectable taste and are a sought-after species in both commercial and sport fisheries.
Atlantic Salmon
Atlantic salmon are prized for their remarkable life cycle, which includes spawning in freshwater, migrating to the ocean to grow, and returning to their home rivers to reproduce. Known for their flavorful, pink flesh, they are highly sought after in both commercial and recreational fishing, offering anglers an exciting challenge and a delicious reward.
Steelhead/Rainbow Trout
Steelhead, also known as rainbow trout, are captivating anadromous fish celebrated for their silvery appearance, formidable fighting abilities, and annual migration between freshwater and the ocean. Their rainbow-colored streaks become prominent during spawning, and their firm, pinkish flesh is prized for its delicate flavor. Steelhead offer anglers thrilling battles and an exquisite culinary experience, making them a sought-after catch in both the sporting and culinary worlds.
Walleye (Mid November – Freeze up)
As the end of November approaches and cooler nights set in, a special time of the year unfolds. It’s during this period that large walleye begin their migration into the bay, where they feed on available bait and prepare for their spring spawn. The most productive method for targeting these trophy walleye is trolling deep crankbaits with planer boards to stagger depths and presentations. This location is truly unique, offering the possibility of catching walleye in the 10 to 13-pound range and beyond.
Small Mouth Bass (Sept, Oct, Early Nov)
We fish in the Bay of Quinte for smallmouth bass, where we encounter a significant population of bass capitalizing on the abundant round goby and other baitfish. Consistently, we encounter bass in the 5-pound class, and each season brings a few true trophy catches, making this a world-class smallmouth fishery. Adaptability is a key to our success, as we adjust our presentations and techniques based on the prevailing conditions and the mood of the fish. Given the challenging weather during this season, we seize opportunities during windows of slack winds to make the most of our fishing adventures.
Lake Trout (Dec 1- Freeze up)
Experience an extraordinary fishery where using jigging plastics, blade baits, and rattle baits results in phenomenal fishing. Engaging in interactive jigging, aided by sonar technology, provides an exhilarating way to catch lake trout. These impressive fish, often weighing 20 pounds or more, swim depths of 50 feet or deeper just to strike your bait. Whether you prefer to jig or troll, there’s an opportunity to land some fantastic lake trout, with a chance of encountering specimens even larger!
The Fishing
Lake Ontario proves to be one of the best angling opportunities adjacent to a major urban area. With excellent fishing for tackle busting chinook and king salmon as well as their smaller cousins the Coho or Silver. The chinooks or king salmons are known for their very long runs, stamina and acrobatics leave them as one of the top angling adversaries. While targeting chinooks we also catch trophy size steelhead and coho salmon. Although smaller than chinooks they are always up for aerials and fast runs and bursts. The chinooks are fall spawners, making their way up rivers and streams in Late august and September. Before then they stock up on food in preparation for this journey.
We typically troll various spoons, flasher fly, and real anchovies and herring too. We utilize downriggers, dipsy divers, lead core and copper line to get out baits to various depths they may be feeding at.
The fishing usually starts to heat up on the north shore in June depending on weather and wind conditions. The fishing stays steady until the end of August and rain conditions as these fish are geared to make their journeys in high water levels after a rain.
“Chinook” King Salmon
The Chinook salmon is the largest species in the Pacific salmon genus. Chinook salmon are known for their sporting angling characteristics of long runs and acrobatics. The largest ever Chinook in Lake Ontario was recorded at 46 lbs.
“Coho” Silver Salmon
The coho salmon is a species of migrating fish in the salmon family, one of several species of Pacific salmon found in Lake Ontario.
“Steelhead” Rainbow Trout
Steelhead rainbow trout, often simply called steelhead, are a sea-run form of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). These remarkable fish are known for their silvery appearance, powerful fighting abilities, and annual migrations between freshwater and the ocean, making them a popular target for anglers.
Our Fishing Philosophy
At Angler’s Edge we focus on the sportfishing experience. Captain Mike is a sport fisherman and has a conservation-minded attitude to protect and take extra care of our resources. Mike has a background in conservation and graduated from the fish and wildlife program at Fleming College. We catch and release and are interested in strategic technically-driven fishing and studying fish patterns and behaviour in Lake Ontario.

Brown Trout
Brown trout (Salmo trutta) are a favorite among anglers, recognized for their striking golden-brown coloration and the diverse habitats they inhabit.
